What readers have to say:
"From the first page I am glued. I have nothing that I dislike
about this book right now everything is good. The writer bring me into
the book as if I am there." CHRISTIN
"I have read several books on how to prepare for a disaster but I really
liked this one as it included a personal account of the author's own
experiences surviving hurricane Katrina. To me, this made the ideas
real instead of theoretical. This book covered the reality of what
happens to people, property and pets during a crisis of this magnitude.
It was eye-opening to me, probably because I had never taken the time
to think about it before. This book also includes what to have on
hand in order to be prepared, and what to do during and after a
disaster. I found the book both interesting and extremely valuable.
Hopefully I will never need to use the knowledge that I gained through
reading this book, but I'm glad that I now do have the knowledge." MINDY LEE
"This is a good read for anyone who has ever gone through a natural
disaster, or is recovering from one. The author shares her personal
story of living through Hurricane Betsy and Katrina, and analyzes the
differences and how each Hurricane affected people's reaction to the
next one. She discusses a lot of the practical things you can do to
prepare, such as carrying an ax with you, or how to handle the emotional
trauma of great loss. What I found helpful was that as she shared her
personal experience, she also shared insight on how people react to
natural disasters. She gave ways to cope and ideas for how to be
prepared ahead of time, and how to manage afterwards. I also thought it
was interesting to hear about how public servants reacted, such as
police officers and rescuers, and how we need to be sure to support them
as well. While every natural disaster is different, this book helped
share some general guiding principles to prepare." Katie W
